The Anthony Nolan Trust is delighted to announce that it was selected by BGC (formerly Cantor Fitzgerald) to be a recipient of funds raised during their annual charity day on 11th September 2008. The Anthony Nolan Trust enjoys strong support from within BGC due to the vital role of the charity’s work for thousands of families around the world.
BGC established their annual charity day in memory of the large numbers of staff the company lost in the Twin Towers terrorist attack. Each of the company’s offices worldwide invite charities to attend – in London this year 20 charities were invited to BGC’s Canary Wharf office for a day of fun and activities. Profits from the day’s global trading are then divided up amongst the selected charities.
Each charity is invited to participate in various ways, including attending with celebrity patrons. The Anthony Nolan Trust is pleased that rugby hero Will Carling attended the day on the charity’s behalf, as well as former England cricketers Angus Fraser and Chris Reid; showbusiness support on behalf of the charity came from Michael McKell (Doctors, Eastenders, The Bill), Mark Perry (Dead Ringers), Patricia Potter (Holby City), Belinda Owusu (Eastenders), Rachael Cordingley (Miss Maxim) and to add a bit of mischief, The Cheeky Girls.
Guy Parkes, Head of Corporate Relationships at The Anthony Nolan Trust said: “We are very pleased to have been chosen for the BGC charity day – it’s quite an honour and a reflection of how well thought of the Anthony Nolan Trust is. Everyone had a very enjoyable time and we even got to try our hands at trading!”
The Anthony Nolan Trust takes back lives from leukaemia by providing lifesaving donors for patients in need of a bone marrow transplant. Since 1974 they have helped to give over 5,000 children and adults a new chance of life thanks to the support of companies and individuals willing to give their help. They heavily rely on events such as this to fund their lifesaving work and encourage people to join the bone marrow register.
