The Anthony Nolan Trust saves lives by recruiting donors to our
national bone marrow register
Register
·The Anthony Nolan Trust is the UK’s largest and most successful register
390,000 people are on the bone marrow register, and it’s not enough!
·Approx 16,000 people worldwide currently require a donor
·Since 1974, The Anthony Nolan Trust has given over 5,000 patients a chance of life
·In 2007, The Anthony Nolan Trust facilitated unrelated donor transplants for over 650 patients
·To join the Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Register you need to be aged between 18 and 40, and you can remain available to donate until your 60th birthday
Donors
·There is a one in four chance that a brother or sister will share the same tissue type as the patient
·Only 30% of patients needing a transplant will find a matching donor from within their own family, generally from a sibling
·We try to find unrelated donors for patients who do not have a suitable family donor
Costs
·The Anthony Nolan Trust is a registered charity. We rely on financial support from individuals and companies to ensure that we can continue our life-saving work
·In 2007 we raised £18.65m. For every £1 we receive in income, 85 pence is spent on charitable purposes
·Nearly 10,000 donors were deleted from the Register during 2007, mainly through donors reaching the upper age limit to donate
·It costs the Charity £125 to recruit each potential donor to the register
