Sing for life - a church congregation raising money by getting sponsored to sing 50 hymnsWhy not organise your own fundraising challenge?

Fundraising events are a great way to have fun and raise money. The key is to keep it simple, don’t spend too much money and make sure that it is something that people will want to do.You can organise an event to involve your work colleagues, your family and neighbours, your local pub or an organisation you are a member of.

Fright Night Photo - volunteers assisting at a Fright NightHere are some ideas:

  • Car boot sales
  • Pub crawls or quiz nights
  • 70s Disco night
  • Sponsored Head/Leg/Chest Shave
  • Line-Dancing Challenge
  • Ladies Night & Slave Auction

Here are some examples of what other people have done to raise funds:

Saving money

A policeman arranged with his bosses to cycle to work each day, and transferred the money they saved on his parking space and petrol allowance to his online fundraising page.He raised £1,000 and got fit at the same time!

Auction of promises

A runner invited friends, family and colleagues to support his fundraising efforts by making promises, which were then auctioned. The promises included mowing the lawn, DIY for a month, cooking a four-course meal for six people at home, knitting a sweater.

Curry Night

A local Indian Restaurant agreed a fixed price buffet menu of £8.A group of volunteers then charged all their family and friends £15 to attend the Anthony Nolan Curry Night. The friends had a great night out and raised over £200 profit.(Italian restaurants are good for this type of fundraising too!)
