Location: Roxburghe Golf Course, near Kelso, Scottish Borders
Date: Thursday 23 October 2008
Join us for a lifesaving round of golf on one of Scotland’s finest courses. Help take back lives from leukaemia by entering this great event.
Wonderful golf, a wonderful location and saving lives - a winning combination.
The Duke of Roxburghe, an avid golfer, commissioned Dave Thomas to build this challenging course on his estate, which opened in 1997. The result of Thomas’ design bears his distinct hallmark of deep challenging bunkers and large rolling greens. The wide fairways follow the natural contours of the land, making full use of the various changes in elevations.
The signature “Viaduct” hole is an elevated tee commanding views of the River Teviot, that hugs the left of the fairway with an imposing viaduct in the background.
Sam Torrance OBE, former Ryder Cup Captain said, “Roxburghe’s signature hole, The Viaduct, is my favourite 14th tee in Scotland! It’s such beautiful hole in such a glorious setting.”
The heart of the course are the par threes, play those well and you’ll likely make a good score as three of them are around the 190 yard mark. Because of water hazards on 2 and bunkering on 3, the ball has to be long, high and straight to have any chance of reaching the putting surface in regulation.
The Competition
This will be a team event over 18 holes using the Stableford system of scoring. The best 3 scores at each hole applies. The maximum handicap for a gentleman is 28 and ladies is 36. The day will begin with a Champagne Breakfast followed by a shotgun start. A rolling buffet style lunch will follow the golf along with a prize giving. There will be first, second and third team prizes plus nearest the pin and longest drive competition. Places are limited, so don’t delay in reserving your team place.
Entry
Your team of four entry fee is £500 and this will help The Anthony Nolan Trust take back lives from leukaemia.
