The Anthony Nolan Trust has six main areas of work :
- Tissue-Typing
- Research
- Operations
- Fundraising
- Marketing and Communications
- IT and Administrative support functions
Our Tissue-Typing laboratory staff work on samples provided by donors and patients using state-of-the-art molecular technology for HLA typing. We recruit graduates with good honours degrees in Biological Sciences or Molecular Biology, with a working knowledge of PCR based techniques. We are also interested in non-graduates with the right experience. Training is offered and recruits are expected to enrol in a programme of further study.
There are five different research groups at our Research Institute each led by a senior scientist. They and their teams work to improve the techniques that will improve the outcome of bone marrow and stem cell transplantation as a treatment for leukaemia and other diseases. Their work attracts international interest and high calibre work at post-doctoral level is undertaken.
Our Operations personnel ensure the development and maintenance of our donor register. Operations undertake the complex procedures of identification and matching of donors and patients in conjunction with registries in other countries. They also make all the arrangements leading up to donation and care of the donor after donation. We recruit people with administration experience, and excellent interpersonal skills.
Our Fundraising staff are based from home, head office or at our regional office. Our fundraising staff play a vital role in maintaining support for the charity at a local level, raising vital funds and working closely with the media to ensure regular media exposure in their areas. They give talks to a variety of public groups and organise large and small fundraising events. We recruit people experienced in communication and fundraising.
Our Marketing and Communications team aims to raise the profile of the Charity and to deal with all media enquiries swiftly and efficently. They are also responsible for the development and maintenance of the our website.
IT and Administrative staff are also required at our head offices in Hampstead, London to ensure a full range of support functions are carried out efficiently.
