2000 2,500th Anthony Nolan donor provided for transplant.
Shirley Nolan was awarded an OBE in the new Millennium Honour List. At the time, Shirley was living in Australia.
Her official response to her OBE was typical of her perspective on life : "I was of course thrilled and delighted to receive this accolade, which I accepted with pride on behalf of everyone who helped me in my goal, but particularly I accept it for Anthony. My greatest reward has always been to know that my little boy did not die in vain. Because of Anthony others have lived, and his legacy remains. We can all do something to help save lives. I just did what any mother would do - my best."

On 14th July this year Shirley Nolan died in Australia aged 60 : Memorial service held at St Paul’s Cathedral. Shirley Nolan however, made no secret of the fact that her greatest reward was always the knowledge that her little boy, Anthony, did not die in vain.
